Abstract

Penelitian bertujuan mendapatkan gambaran lebih dalam tentang proses berpikir metaforis dalam penalaran pada materi bentuk aljabar. Sampel penelitian adalah maahasiswa semester V Program Studi Pendidikan Matematika Universitas Muhammadiyah Purwokerto. Diambil masing-masing dua responden dari kategori Indeks Prestasi Komulatif (IPK) tinggi dan sedang menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Pengambilan data menggunakan tes, dokumentasi, dan wawancara mendalam. Data yang diperoleh kemudian direduksi, disajikan, dan disimpulkan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: a) semua responden menggunakan prinsip keseimbangan dalam timbangan untuk menyelesaikan permasalahan yang terkait dengan materi bentuk aljabar; b) responden dengan IPK tinggi cenderung mampu menggunakan metafora-metafora untuk menyelesaikan permasalahan bentuk aljabar; c) responden dengan IPK sedang cenderung ragu-ragu ketika menggunakan metafora-metafora dalam dalam menyelesaikan masalah; d) semua responden terbiasa menggunakan penyederhanaan bentuk aljabar dan baru pertama kali menyelesaikan permasalahan menggunakan metafora.
